Primary Purpose:

The Data Management Analyst II plays a key role in collaboration with data architects, data engineers, key business stakeholders, and subject-matter experts to produce, test, maintain, and improve curated data products that add value to the business. You will apply standards and best practices, including data integrity, effective data literacy, and compliance with data governance and data security requirements. You will continuously reduce risk and improve the value and effectiveness of existing solutions, as well as efficiency of our tools and processes, via training, documentation, visualization, automation, testing, scalability, experimentation, supporting client analysts, as well as mentoring our own new and junior analysts.

Additionally, you will actively support client technologists in developing their own reports and data analysis, offering guidance and assistance as needed.


This position leverages practical knowledge of data solutions design and testing, business data domains, appropriate data and metadata management services such as Azure Synapse, Microsoft Purview, and PowerBI, plus data modeling and visualization/story-telling experience, as well as the basics of related infrastructure components such as identity, security, storage, servers, and networking.

Primary Job Duties:

1. (25%) Collaborate on Data Solutions: Work with business (data) analysts in refining their data requirements for various data and analytics initiatives and their data consumption requirements. Work with data architects and data engineers to design, test, and support data solutions. Share data and modeling expertise, including with tools like Microsoft PowerBI and Microsoft Fabric. Mentor student-assistants and contractors on our data solutions processes. Leverage experience deriving business use-cases and visualizations/story-telling (including flowcharts, visual graphs, and/or dashboards) for management to make data-driven decisions.


2. (25%) Support Data Engineering, DevOps, and dependency management: Collaborate on support, internal documentation, and effective knowledge transfer, especially to student-assistants and contractors. Ensure regression testing and dependency risks are managed. Support re-design and re-engineering effort for use of modern tools and techniques, as well as automation. Leverage trend/pattern analysis skills, coding, and SQL expertise in development environments like Azure Synapse, Databricks, and Microsoft Fabric.


3. (30%) Promote data literacy. Design reporting examples and templates to mentor on visualizations and story-telling best practices. Provide metadata, catalog, and instructional material to improve effective use and adoption of developed data solutions. Co-design, manage, and provide instructor-led training. Leverage experience training and supporting clients and colleagues.


4. (10%) Promote data governance. Ensure data products meet compliance, organizational timeliness, quality and integrity standards and best practices through both design and support efforts. Ensure data products meet security and access control policies and standards. Manage data catalog resources. Leverage quality assurance and code maintenance/support experience.


5. (5%) Keep abreast of latest trends in analytics and data management, and make recommendations to improve efficiency, automation, modularity, and facilitate the team's goals based on experience. Promote continuous improvement and innovation across teams (and Agile Release Train) as well. Mentor junior team members, sometimes in other groups and sometimes student-assistants and contractors.


6. (5%) Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in information technology, business/operations analysis or a related field, with five years of experience in related positions; or a Master's degree and three years of related experience.

Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.

Critical skills: Data Management (including data analysis, organization, quality, and protection) and Data Engineering (including SQL scripting and the ability to learn/debug/build data pipelines and orchestrate data flows, ideally in Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric).


Important skills: Data Governance, security/access-control, metadata and data discovery (ideally using Microsoft Purview).


Desirable skills: Experiences with agile methodology and tools (e.g. JIRA), PowerBI semantic modeling, report development, Data and AI Literacy, self-service enablement, DevOps, LogicApps, data platform admin/engineering.
