Overview

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform district-based duties associated with processing insurance benefit questions and inquires. Employees serve as district contact for all insurance matters. Performs related work as directed.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.

Provides customer service to new & existing employees to assist them in selecting an appropriate insurance plan.

Serves as the technical expert in training and assisting co-workers with questions.

Prepares and processes life insurance claims.

Assists in overseeing the process of running weekly payroll edits to determine if any errors have occurred in all payroll insurance deductions including summer adjustments and refunds.

Responsible for preparing leave of absence billing including FMLA and disability waivers. Determines the appropriate premiums to be billed.

Researches and calculates missing insurance deductions. Coordinates and monitors payment until premiums are paid in full.

Performs manual program calculations of insurance premiums, summer adjustment premiums and refunds. Enters the specific wage type into the system.

Meets and assists employees with more complex insurance questions.

Provides support, training and guidance to district personnel regarding the Employee Self Service process as it related to enrollment and making changes to their insurance plans.

Performs testing of technical functions of the internal system to verify the processes are working correctly and if necessary document errors.

Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; utilizes word processing, database, and software programs.

Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department activities, which may include a typewriter, adding machine, or fax.

Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; and five (5) years’ experience in employee benefits or any equivalent combinationof related education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions.

Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to start, stop, operate and monitor the functioning of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may require ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.

Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
