Job Summary

The Student Technician Assistant provides entry-level technical support for the Graham Center (GC) and Wellness & Recreation Center. This position assists with workstation imaging, endpoint configuration, digital signage support, and IT asset management in accordance with Florida International University (FIU) Division of IT (DoIT) standards, departmental policies, and university security requirements.

The incumbent supports daily technology operations while delivering professional customer service to stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides first-level technical support for hardware, software, and peripheral-related issues within the Graham Center and Wellness & Recreation Center.
  • Diagnoses and resolves routine technical problems; escalate complex or unresolved issues to the IT Supervisor
  • Assists with imaging, deployment, and configuration of new and replacement workstations using FIU university-approved standards and procedures.
  • Configures software installations, printers, and related peripherals for staff.
  • Performs workstation moves, additions, and changes including relocation and setup of computing equipment.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of service requests, workstation modifications, and deployment activities.
  • Updates and maintains endpoint inventory records in Active Directory and Snipe-IT to ensure asset accountability and lifecycle tracking.
  • Ensures endpoints comply with departmental and DoIT security policies, including patching, endpoint protection, and configuration standards.
  • Supports and maintains computing equipment within the Graham Center Esports Lounge, including monitoring system performance, performing routine updates, assisting with re-imaging, configuring peripherals, and troubleshooting gaming workstations in accordance with university standards.
  • Assists with support and maintenance of the Graham Center website and related web applications.
  • Assists with administration and operational support of the Digital Signage System (DSS) and related equipment.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and technology enhancements consistent with departmental objectives.
  • Follows established Graham Center protocols and collaborates with administrators, facilities personnel, and other university units as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the assignment of logically related responsibilities.

  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Basic level of photoshop/Canva
  • Basic level Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.

  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
