The University of Miami, College of Arts and Sciences - Department of Chemistry has an exciting opportunity for a part time Research Laboratory Technician to work in Coral Gables, FL.

The Research Laboratory Technician performs basic technical activities related to general laboratory experiments under close guidance of experienced laboratory personnel.

Core responsibilities:

  • Cleans, sanitizes, maintains, and operates laboratory equipment.
  • Keeps records of research data and assists in analyzing it.
  • Maintains inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies and places orders in a timely fashion.
  • Proofreads and assists in the writing of manuscripts, grant proposals, and lab protocols.
  • Prepares reports of experiment results.
  • Performs research by completing simple experiments or steps in more complicated studies.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions:

The research technician will provide general support for laboratory functions such as using a dishwasher to clean glassware, use of an autoclave to sterilize glassware, use of a balance and pH meter to prepare buffers, culturing of cells under sterile conditions, and will also participate in specific research projects.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
  • Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
